How To Develop Unshakable Confidence

To explore this part of the world requires unshakable confidence or a healthy level of insanity. For those of you that are thinking insanity might rule, I beg your difference.
Let me tell you how I see self-confidence. To me, self- confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits. When I think back on this horseback riding experience, I remember feeling unstoppable.
I haven’t always been confident. In the past, I often looked the part but inside I felt incapable and inadequate.
Then this happened.
I was giving a presentation and my hands were shaking. I wasn’t sure I could do a good job.
My mentor was in the audience and saw my nervousness. Later in the evening, we met me for drinks. Within minutes, the conversation drifted to my presentation.
“Annette, why were you so nervous?”
“I kept thinking I might not have the answers to their questions,” I replied.
He pointed out that my perception of myself was the cause of my self-confidence problem, not a lack of ability.
You ever have one of those eureka moments? This was mine.
So I started working on improving my perception of myself and hence, my confidence.
I found all I needed was five strategies to keep my confidence strong and powerful. I want to share them with you in hopes that you too will find unshakable confidence.
1. Pay attention to your persona.
No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people.
Take the time to spruce yourself up a bit. Wear clothes that fit, perk up your hair, and whitened your teeth with one of those across the counter deals.
Pull your shoulders back. Practicing good posture will automatically make you feel more confident.
Once you have spruced yourself up and got those shoulders back, make an effort to walk fast. People with confidence walk quickly.
So even if you are not feeling unshakably confident yet, walk 25% faster anyway. It will make you look and feel more important.
Nothing builds self-confidence more than having a strong body. Now, I’m not talking about a buff bod, but I am talking about being able to walk a set of stairs without puffing like a dragon.
Get yourself a pedometer and chart your activity. I know from experience, it feels good when you met your goal each day. And when you feel strong and healthy, on the confidence meter, you will be off the charts.
3. Face your fears.
This is a tricky one because we all tend to identify with our thoughts. Let me tell you a secret. Your thoughts lie to you. They tell you because something negative happened once, it will likely happen again. That flat out isn’t true.
So don’t take your thoughts too seriously. A lot of the time they and your memory are pretty inaccurate.
Anytime you try to fly by the seat of your pants, you set yourself up for possible failure. Preparing yourself and educating yourself can be a big help in the self-confidence arena. Without it, it is easy to get lost in vague, foggy fear and start building what-if horror scenarios in your mind.
5. Take Action.
Perhaps one of the most important steps to building strong self-confidence is to work on something and get it done. Sitting around thinking about what you haven’t done just makes you feel bad about yourself.

How will you know when you have unshakable confidence? When you can say you trust your own abilities, have a general sense of control in your life, and believe that, within reason, you will be able to do what you wish, plan, and expect. These five strategies will get you there. I am confident of it!
